5 Low Carb Side Dishes For Christmas
These 5 low carb side dishes for Christmas will be a hit for any occasion. The recipes will complement a golden roasted turkey. Try one, or try them all.
1. Fried Green Beans
The ingredients:
- 1/2 pound bacon
- 1 pound frozen green beans
- salt and pepper to taste
- Fry the bacon. Fry the bacon in a large skillet. Remove the bacon from the grease.
- Add green beans. Lower the heat and add the green beans to the grease.
- Season. Add salt and pepper. Sauté the beans until they are soft. Serve.
2. Low Carb Steamed Squash Christmas Side Dish
The ingredients:
- 1 pound zucchini or yellow squash, sliced
- 3/4 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons butter
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- Steam. Add the water to a large sauce pan and bring to a boil. Put the squash on a steamer rack in the pan. Reduce the heat and simmer seven minutes.
- Drain water. Turn off the heat and remove the rack. Drain the water and dump the squash back into the pan.
- Butter and season. Salt and pepper to taste; add the oregano and serve.
3. Mashed Cauliflower
The ingredients:
- 1 head of cauliflower
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- Steam. In a large pot, steam the cauliflower until very tender.
- Mash. Mash the cauliflower as you would potatoes.
- Add butter and milk. Add all the butter and part of the milk. Blend well. Add more milk if needed until a mashed potato consistency is reached. Serve.
4. Not Really Macaroni and Cheese
This low carb side dish for Christmas is similar to the above with a couple of changes.
The ingredients:
- 1 head of cauliflower
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 pound or more shredded cheddar cheese
- Steam. In a large pot, steam the cauliflower until very tender.
- Mash. Mash the cauliflower as you would potatoes.
- Add butter and cheese. Add the butter and mix. Add the cheese and blend well. Serve.
5. Low Carb Christmas Broiled Tomatoes Recipe
The ingredients:
- 4 medium tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- grated parmesan cheese
- Prepare the tomatoes. Slice each tomato in half horizontally.
- Add the oregano. Sprinkle some of the oregano over each tomato. Don't go crazy with it; less is more.
- Add the parmesan. Sprinkle some grated parmesan over each tomato. This time, more is better.
- Broil. Place the tomatoes under a broiler until the parmesan is melted and starts to brown. Remove and serve.
