The term “Lowriding” first blossomed in Mexican-American neighborhoods in the ‘30s, eventually exploding in 1950. At first, people put sandbags in the trunks, thus creating a “lowering” effect. Later, drop spindles, cut spring coils and hydraulics replaced the bags. These top five rarest Lowrider classic cars are simply a popular opinion, as there are truly too many to mention.
- 1937 Chevrolet Cabriolet.This monster machine easily makes #1 on the top five rarest Lowrider classic car list. Additionally, it makes you wonder why the Ford cars were so popular during that era. It may have been under appreciated then, but now this rare Lowrider classic car has captured the attention of many high-end collectors. It was constructed of structural wood, not metal like the ’37 Chevy truck.

It can go from zero to 60 mph in 14 seconds; however, this rare Lowrider classic car is strictly a go-out-cruising type of vehicle. They look especially cool when airbrushed.
- 1972 Chevy Impala Convertible. This ranks second on our top five rarest Lowrider classic cars, mainly because of its sleek overall 219.9-inch length and 80-inch width. Long and luxurious with a back seat spacious enough for three huge head-geared adults. If you see one of these rare Lowriders cruising down the road, you will not be able to take your peepers off it. If you actually get a chance to push down on the skinny little pedal and watch the needle sweep across the horizontal speedometer, do it. Even though it is a classic, this baby rides smooth. It does not scream for attention, this Lowrider classic car simply gets it.
- 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.Today’s rare Lowrider Monte Carlo had a does not have the distinctive styling underpinnings of the earlier years. The sporty chassis and driving dynamics, in addition to the sheer power they had land this hard to find Lowrider classic car smack in the middle of our top five. The exterior offered a pleasing, sculpted contemporary and classy appearance. In spite of everything, back in those years, sales were sluggish. In 2007, it was discontinued.

Priced at over half million dollars, most will not be buying any of these beauties any time soon. For those that can afford it, this is one of the top five rarest Lowrider classic cars of them all. If you don’t enjoy commonplace, this is the machine to stash in your garage. However, you’ll want to show this one off on your local parking lot drag, organized Lowrider car show or hydraulic convention. Don’t hide this baby’s light under a bushel.
