5 Recipes For Jewish Feast Days

Many Jewish Feast Days are filled with foods that are sweet, and these 5 recipes for Jewish feast days will fit the bill.  Many of the foods are sweetened with apples, and honey to symbolize the good fortune.

 

Candied Yams for a Jewish Feast

  • 6 large yams
  • 12 oz. orange juice concentrate
  • 1 1/2 boxes dark brown sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  1. Parboil potatoes. Peel and quarter
  2. Make syrup by mixing remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil.
  3. Add potatoes to syrup and cook until potatoes are tender.

 

Apple Kugel

  • 1 can sliced apples
  • 1/4 lb melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  1. Blend all ingredients.
  2. Pour into greased 9 x 9 pan and bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.

 

Baked Salmon

  • 3 lbs Salmon
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Thyme
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 cups cream
  • 3 onions, sliced
  • 3 Parsley sprigs
  • 1 garlic clove, quartered
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cucumbers, peeled and cut into strips
  1. Combine spices and rub on salmon.
  2. Melt butter in baking dish. Add salmon and coat with butter.
  3. Add cream, onion, parsley, garlic, and bay leaf. Arrange cucumbers around fish.
  4. Bake uncovered for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.

 

Hamantashen For Your Jewish Feast

  • 2/3 cup margarine, room temp.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose white flour
  • pie filling
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • sugar for garnish
  1. Blend butter and sugar
  2. Add flour and orange juice, alternating
  3. Refrigerate batter for a few hours.
  4. Roll out dough. Cut into three-to-four-inch circles.
  5. Put a tablespoon of pie filling in the middle of each circle.
  6. Fold up sides to form a triangle.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for ten to fifteen minutes.

 

Kreplach

  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup ground cooked beef or chicken
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 tsp salt
  1. For dough combine first four ingredients. Knead and roll out thin on floured board. Cut into three-inch circles.
  2. For filling mix last three ingredients.
  3. Place one teaspoon of filling in middle of circle. Fold in half and press edges together. Moisten with a little of water to seal.
  4. Place in boiling water for twenty minutes.
