Many new kayakers will be able to use these five saltwater kayak fishing tips. You should heed these tips, but also keep in mind that are many more to be learned. However, these will get you started and prepared for what you will be facing out there in those kayak fishing salt waters!

  1. Make sure to get a kayak built for fishing in salt water. This is important because regular kayaks do not have specific accommodations for fish. These helpful features include extra compartments for tackle boxes, and notches for your pole in the side of the kayak. These are important for comfort because you don’t want to have to say, hold the pole for a full five or six hours, or however long you’re planning on being out there.
  2. Go kayak salt water fishing with friends! This is important because it is safer and if you or someone else is to get in an accident, there will be others available to assist you. It is also important because you will be less lonely and bored with a few people to talk to. Remember to buy a kayak accordingly if you’re planning on fishing with friends!
  3. Keep focus when fishing in a kayak, especially in salt water. Since most salt water locations are popular for fishing, there are going to be a lot more boats on the water that can run you over! Don’t depend on them to avoid you, Other boats may not see you, or act quickly enough to avoid hitting you. Make sure you pay attention out on the water.
  4. Keep dry clothes somewhere accessible. Being on salt water, you have a high likelihood of getting at least a little bit wet, so keep this in mind when you pack for kayaking!
  5. Practice the scenario of flipping your kayak, and make sure you can flip it back over. This is especially important when salt water fishing because with more boats, there are more waves, and thus a higher likelihood of flipping.
