5 Signs Of A Cheating Spouse

These 5 signs of a cheating spouse are among the most common indicators that your partner is having an affair. Please be aware that the presence of one, two or even more of these signs does not mean conclusively that your spouse is cheating. But, when you see several of these signs together, it's a basis for further investigation. Hopefully, when you see these signs, you'll find that there is an innocent explanation for them, but be prepared to accept that your spouse is cheating.

  1. Changes in behavior. If your spouse becomes more attentive, loving and affectionate than she normally is, she may be cheating. This sounds counter-intuitive, but spouses who cheat will often shower their partners with affection and gifts to soothe the guilt they feel. Conversely, a spouse who becomes more combative or insulting may be cheating. Cheating and lying are stressful and make a cheater irritable. Cheating spouses also start putting down their partners and making sarcastic remarks about them as a way of justifying their affairs by implying that their partners are inferior or unworthy of them. Be particularly suspicious if arguments lead to your spouse getting so angry that she leaves home.

  2. Secretive about their cell phone and computer accounts. A spouse who will not let you have access to her cell phone may be having an affair, particularly if she didn't care in the past if you used her cell phone or looked at the call log. A cheating spouse will hold onto a cell phone at all times. She will take it to the bathroom with her. She will sleep with it or hide it at night. She will hide the bill and will pay it herself, even if you paid the bill in the past. She takes calls in private when she used to let you listen in on her calls. Has she also changed her computer passwords, denying you access to her email accounts even though you had access in the past? Does she have a new email account? Does she quickly shut down the internet when you walk into the room? Does she stay up late at night to do work or play games on the computer? These things are signs of a cheating spouse.

  3. Changes in appearance. A cheating spouse will often try to look more attractive. A cheating spouses loses weight or at least goes on a diet and begins to work out more. She often changes her hair color and style. She uses makeup more and begins to dress better and more provocatively. If your spouse is getting dolled up to go to the grocery store or the bank, she may be cheating. New clothes in her wardrobe, especially sexy new lingerie that you never see her wear, should arouse your suspicions, too.

  4. Staying away from home more. Cheating spouses often start working late and on weekends when they rarely or never did this. They also visit friends more often than they did before. Cheating spouses take hours to do errands that in the past never took more than a few minutes. If she is working more hours, but you're not seeing more money come into the house, she may be cheating. In fact, when your spouse is cheating, you're more likely to see unexplained bank withdrawals and credit card charges. Affairs cost money and it's hard for cheaters to hide their additional expenditures for long.

  5. People act strangely around you. If people, such as mutual friends and your spouse's co-workers, start acting strangely whenever you see them, your spouse may be cheating. It's true that the victimized spouse is often the last to know about an affair. Her friends, your friends and the people that she works with probably know she is cheating. They don't want to get involved or don't want to be the one that tells you what's going on. Thus, they are uncomfortable in your presence.
