What are the 5 signs of sexual addiction? Signs of sexual addiction can vary depending on the individual and how they engage in their social life. Sexual addiction refers to an unusually high  sexual drive or an intense obsession with sex. Thoughts of sex dominate the sex addict's mind, making it difficult to maintain healthy personal relationships. Sex addiction can lead down a dangerous path resulting in involvement in illegal activities such as exhibitionism (public nudity), molestation or rape and making obscene telephone calls. Here you will find the 5 top signs of sexual addiction.

  1. Compulsive Masturbation. One of our first signs of sexual addiction is compulsive masturbation or self-stimulation. Many sex addicts will find any excuse to be alone in order to relive the strong urge to masturbate. Others engage in public masturbation and associate their sexual addiction with risk-taking.
  2. Multiple Affairs/Partners. Individuals suffering from sexual addiction commonly are unable to stay in a monogamous relationship. Although they may still love and be attracted to their partner, the intense urge to participate in sexual encounters elsewhere can be overwhelming to the sex addict. They may have reoccurring one night stands and move from partner to partner to try to fill their sexual needs.
  3. Use of Pornography. One of the most common signs of sexual addiction is the excessive use of pornography. While occasional use of these materials are completely normal, sex addicts use explicit magazines, Internet porn or other forms of pornography on a daily basis or several times a day. Excessive computer sex (cyber sex) or phone sex with the same or various partners can also be a sign of sexual addiction.
  4. Sexual Harassment. Sex addicts are commonly associated with various behaviors such as sexual harassment, rape, molestation, and stalking in more severe cases. Those with a sexual addiction gain satisfaction from sexual activity, whether that activity is wanted by the other person involved or not. Feelings of guilt, shame and lack of control often overwhelm the sex addict resulting in negative consequences.
  5. Emotional Neglect. As one of the most obvious signs of sexual addiction, emotional neglect can also be the most devastating. The sex addict may not involve their partner in their personal life and does not share feelings or intimacy. They may avoid sexual encounters with their partners for long periods of time or will not feel connected but simply go through the motions while having intercourse. Emotional neglect occurs because the addict has a bond with sexual fantasy rather than their partner.
