5 Thanksgiving Pie Recipes

These 5 Thanksgiving pie recipes can cap off a wonderful meal. As one of the few holidays with pie as a traditional dessert, and with pre-made pie crusts available at any grocery store, you can think outside the box and make pecan, apple or cherry pie, or all three! All of the recipes below use a 9-inch, pre-made pie crust, either frozen or refrigerated; if frozen, thaw crust prior to use. Show off your baking skills and treat your guests to a surprisingly culinary treat with one or more of the following five Thanksgiving pie recipes.

1. Pecan Pie

To make a pecan pie for Thanksgiving, you will need:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of corn syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of pecans
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Beat the egg in a bowl until bubbles appear on the surface.
  3. Melt the butter in a skillet and, after melted, add sugar and corn syrup, heat until smooth and then add eggs and pecan.
  4. Pour into pie crust and bake for an hour.

2. Apple Pie

To make an apple pie for Thanksgiving, you will need:

  • 8 cups of peeled, cored and thin sliced baking apples
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter (cold)
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, pour lemon juice over apples.
  3. Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl and add apples, mixing once again.
  4. Pour ingredients into pie crust and bake for one hour and fifteen minutes.

3. Pumpkin Pie

To make a pumpkin pie, you will need:

  • 2 cups pumpkin, mashed (can be from a can)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • ½ cup of buttermilk
  • 1 tsp each of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all ingredients and add to pie crust.
  3. Bake for one hour.
  4. Serve topped with whipped cream.

4. Cherry Pie

To make a cherry pie, you will need:

  • Pre-made pie top crust
  • 4 cups frozen cherries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 4 tbsp corn starch
  • 1/8 tbsp almond extract
  • 1 1/2 tbsp butter
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Heat cherries in a covered saucepan on stove over medium heat, remove after cherries have lost a majority of their water.
  3. Mix sugar and cornstarch together in a small bowl, add to heated cherries and stir.
  4. Mix in almond extract.
  5. Pour mixture into pie crust and place small pieces of the butter over the cherry mixture.
  6. Top with pie crust.
  7. Bake for approximately one hour.

5. Chocolate Cream Pie

To make a chocolate cream pie, you will need:

  • 5 marshmallows
  • 4 large milk chocolate bars
  • 4 large caramel milk chocolate bars
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  1. Combine the marshmallows, chocolate bars and 1/3 cup of cream in a microwave safe bowl and microwave until melted. Stir occasionally, if necessary.
  2. Whip remaining cream until it forms stiff peaks.
  3. Fold into cooled chocolate mixture.
  4. Pour into pie crust and refrigerate for at least two hours.
