5 Tips For Cleaning Running Shoes
Everyone can use tips for cleaning running shoes. Because of the purpose of running shoes and the amount of time that you may spend in them, it is important to keep them clean and looking nice. Remember, before starting any type of cleaning on the shoes, be sure to read the label for any specific instructions.
- Clean out the tread of the running shoes using something to pry out the rocks and mud that can get caught in the crevices. Be sure to do this outside as it can make a pretty big mess. If the mud has hardened, add water to make it easier to remove. Rocks can be pressed further into the tread causing damage if they are not removed on a regular basis.
- Wipe down the outside of the shoes with a damp washcloth or sponge. You can place one hand in the shoe to hold it up and use the other to move around the outer edge. When it comes to scuffs, it may be necessary to scrub a little harder or use a magic eraser type sponge to remove dark marks.
- One of the easiest ways to clean running shoes is placing them in a washing machine. You don't want to use a lot of detergent, so consider only putting in half of the normal amount. When finished, the laces are usually wound up tight and will need to be loosened. Most people don't put their running shoes into the dryer unless the are looking for them to shrink a little.
- For serious stains, you may need to soak your shoes for an extended amount of time. You can do this before placing them in the washing machine, or just use this method to clean them. Only add a small amount of soap to the water and be sure to rinse them completely.
- For hard to reach areas, use small items like Q-tips to get into crevices and creases. This works well if you are avoiding the washing machine method of cleaning your running shoes, but you will want them to look new again. Soak the tip in water and move back and forth until dirt is dislodged from the area.
