Everyone needs to know these 5 tips for cleaning white shoes. Whether you are a man or woman, chances are that you have some sort of white shoes in your wardrobe, from tennis shoes to strappy white sandals. White shoes can be easily cleaned and used over and over again looking as if they were new. All white shoes, including leather, canvas and so on, can be cleaned with the simple steps outlined below.

To clean white shoes, you will need:

  • Dish or laundry soap
  • A brush or rag
  • A washing machine
  • A pillowcase
  • Leather polish
  • Commercial cleaning foam
  1. Try a good scrubbing. This works for any shoes other than leather. To clean white shoes, use dish soap or laundry soap with a brush or rag to clean away dirt and debris. Scrub the affected areas of the shoes until they are as white as they were new.
  2. Put your white shoes in the washing machine. If you can throw your shoes in the washing machine, remove the shoe strings and place the shoes in a pillowcase. Pre-treat any bad stains and let them go through the regular wash cycle. Do not dry the shoes in the dryer; your shoes will shrink. Instead, let them air dry on a nice, warm and sunny day outside, or place them in front of a heating register.
  3. Use leather polish. Before using any kind of commercial product on your white shoes, you will want to protect the surface you are using. Leather polish can harm certain surfaces and is hard to remove. First, use a soft cloth to remove any loose debris, then wipe again with a damp cloth. Following the manufacturer's instructions, apply the leather polish. Once the polish is dry, add another coat if needed.
  4. Try some melamine foam. Melamine foam is marketed under several different names. It is generally known as a substance that can remove otherwise stubborn stains from painted walls, tile and, yes, white shoes. It can remove scuff marks from leather shoes and heels. Test a small area of your shoe before attacking the whole scuff mark.
