5 Tips On How To Snowboard

As snowboarding becomes more and more popular, knowing the 5 tips on how to snowboard can help you on, and off the slopes.

  1. Make sure you're dressed properly. Start off with correctly fitted boots and helmets. Be sure to include any other protective equipment you see fit. If your wrists are prone to injury, get them protected with wrist guards. This is the most important step, because if your health is compromised, so much for snowboarding. Get a beginner, or all-purpose snowboard. Once you master this board, you can always head for more advanced boards.
  2. Get used to falling, often. Whether you're just starting to learn, or you're experienced, regardless, you will fall. When falling, try to lean towards the top of the mountain or hill. This is safer because the distance from you and the ground is shorter.
  3. Maintain control. While on the board, it is easier to keep balance and control by extending your hands and arms to the sides, over the tip and tall of the length of the board. When moving, use your hands to point in your desired direction, however do not put them straight out to the front or back as this will remove any balance on your body and perhaps make you fall.
  4. Keep your edges in checkAn important tip when riding a snowboard is that it is a good idea to always ride on your edges of the snowboard. This can be accomplished by applying pressure with your toes to get a toe edge, or lean back on your heels to get a heel edge. Focusing on your edges will help with maintaing your balance and keep you from falling.
  5. Utilize your knees. Most beginners will focus too much with keeping the knees straight, or driving the snowboard with their knees. Doing this while cause early exhaustion and end the trip. The get the most control of your snowboard is to keep your knees bent while riding, instead of straight and stiff. This keeps your weight balanced and centered.
