Affordable pups are the perfect choice for those who want to own a pet but have a limited budget. While some dog breeds that cost an arm and a leg, there are certain breeds which produce relatively affordable pups. Price is not necessarily an indicator of quality as these breeds make excellent pets.

  1. Pitbull. While Pitbulls have been known to have a bad rap, those who are familiar with the breed say a Pitbull bred with the right temperament makes an excellent pet. When selecting Pitbull pups, it is important to approach a good breeder. The wrong breeder may produce pups which could eventually be aggressive to other animals or people. Pitbulls are a medium sized dog that love regular walks and frequent playtime. Quality pitbulls can be had for about $100.

  2. Labrador. The Labrador is the most popular dog breed in the United States. Known for its calm and friendly demeanor, the Labrador makes a great family pet. Aside from being a good companion, this breed also serves as an assistance dog for those with disabilities. Because of their popularity, labradors have been bred in huge numbers. Add to the fact that they normally have litter sizes of around eight pups, a good pup can be bought for around $120.

  3. Dachshund. The Dachshund is available in both the standard and miniature size. The two sizes also come in three different coat varieties; a short hair, long hair and wire-hair. Of the three, the Wirehaired is considered to be the least common in the United States. As far as purebred dogs go, the Dachshund is fairly common and pups are somewhat affordable. Those who love the elongated looks of the Dachshund can expect to shell out $80 to $150 for a puppy.

  4. Boxer. The Boxer is a great dog for those who love talking long walks. The Boxer is a stocky, large-sized dog with a very distinct appearance thanks to its square muzzle. Aside from being an excellent companion dog, the Boxer makes a fine protection dog. While the breed may be too much for the novice dog owner, experienced pet lovers who can control the Boxer are sure to be rewarded by their loyal nature. Boxer puppies can be purchased for as low as $120.

  5. Mixed Breed. A mixed breed dog may be a product of two defined breeds or any mixture of known or unknown breeds. Mixed Breed pups are perhaps the most affordable puppies available. The main knock against Mixed Breed pups is the fact that it can be rather difficult to predict how big they will get and what they will look like when fully grown. However, they usually do make fine pets and are considered hardier than most purebred dogs. Mixed breeds can cost up to $100 but most can be bought for less than $50.
