Most animal lovers know these animal abuse facts and are trying to spread the word to keep animals safe and save the ones that have already been abused. These animal abuse facts are shocking and disturbing. There are two types of people involved in animal cruelty. There are those that are actively cruel towards the animals, and there are those that are passively cruel by allowing the abuse to continue as they sit back and do nothing.

  1. Abuse before the animal becomes a pet. It is more than likely that before an animal becomes a pet in someones home that it has already been abused in one form or another. This abuse isn't necessarily being hit or physically abused, but being kept in small and dirty living areas. They also are often given a minimal amount of nutrition to keep them healthy. Most animals being sold are products of puppy mills whose primary goal is to make a profit.

  2. Violence in the home. Pets are often the first being to take abuse in the family home, because they cannot talk. When looking back into the history of the abuser, chances are that they mistreated animals as a child.

  3. Non-domestic animal abuse. There is animal abuse gainst animals that are not family pets that most people will turn a blind eye too. Non-domestic animal abuse includes animals being raised in food mills or factory farming. The animals are held in terrible conditions for the reason of being raised for food. There are also the animals that are used for animal testing of products such as cosmetics and medication.

  4. Entertainment animals. Animals used to entertain humans are often kept in inhumane conditions for their entire lives. Circus elephants can be chains for up to 23 hours per day from the time they are born. Animals are beaten and poked to learn routines. Greyhounds often have injuries due to the continuous racing and strain on their bodies.
