As the nation's capital, there are a number of attractions in Washington, D.C. for locals and tourists alike to check out and learn about the city and the country as a whole. There are also attractions in Washington, D.C. which are not about America's national history and are just fun things to do. These things are also important to plan before visiting Washington, D.C. so that you know what there is to do when you get there. Check out the list below to help plan out what attractions in Washington, D.C. you want to check out next time you visit.

  1. The White House. One of the most famous homes of a president of any country in the world, this attraction in Washington, D.C. is truly one of a kind to our nation's capital. You can watch it from a distance or you can sign up to take a tour of the home where all the Presidents have ever lived. This will take a few hours and may be more packed on holidays.
  2. The Lincoln Memorial. A free attraction in Washington, D.C. is the Lincoln Memorial or the thing that is on every penny. Hang out on the steps and check out the peaceful area around the other monuments in Washington, D.C. If it's nice out, consider eating lunch outside.
  3. National Gallery of Art on Sundays. A free attraction in Washington, D.C. is the National Gallery of Art on sundays, where you can see free live music from all regions of the world. Seats are all available on a first come, first serve basis.
  4. Kennedy Center Millenium Stage at 6PM. Every night at 6 PM a free performance is put on at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. This free attraction in Washington, D.C. allows you to see great performances as well as the Kennedy Center itself.
  5. Saturday Morning at the National. The National Theater has also taken up doing free performances for the public every saturday morning. This attraction in Washington, D.C. is meant for the whole family, with performances ranging from ballet to music to puppet shows.
