Your horse is probably prepared for running on regular ground, so sand will almost definitely slow it down slightly. Consider training with your horse on sand before going for the Australian horse races.
- Prepare yourself for the extreme conditions that are involved in Australian horse racing. Australia is a much drier place, especially in the inland, than the other places you have most likely gone to race horses. The dryness and the 90's and up heat in the summer time make Australia a possible hazard for conditions such as heat stroke and dehydration. You best bet when Australian horse racing is to stay hydrated and to wear loose fitting clothing so to keep as cool as possible.
- Make sure to wear all of the safety equipment you normally would, but also wear some extra stuff that will help keep you riding comfortably in the Australian horse races. You should obviously wear all of the normal horse racing safety equipment such as pads, a helmet, and goggles but that's shouldn't be the extent of your equipment in Australian horse races. You should definitely consider getting some kind of bandana to put of your mouth so that you can keep sand out of your mouth. Also make sure when you get goggles, you get some shaded ones because there are fewer trees and other forms of shade in Australia and that will create a lot of discomfort while riding.
