While water skiing, it is important that you avoid water skiing injuries. It is easy to injure yourself while water skiing because you are hitting the water at a fast speed and you also have the potential to hit objects in the water.   1. Wear the proper floatation protection. Never enter the water without a floatation device. A life jacket can save your life if you end up in a position where you cannot swim or stay afloat on your own.   3. Don't go too fast. It may be tempting to crank up the speed and fly through the water, but try to maintain a reasonable and safe speed during water skiing. Going too fast can cause a lot of injuries and mistakes which are preventable. Especially for beginners, taking it slow is the best bet. 
  4. Watch for other boats and objects in the water. This safety precaution is crucial to all water skiers. When traveling through the water at high speeds, injuries can be deadly if you happen to hit an object that was in the water. This can also include people who are in the water and the docks. Be very aware of your surroundings and make sure your driver is alert and focused. 
  5. Wear bright colors. Wearing bright or neon colors while water skiing will help someone spot you and see you when you are coming. You should always be watching for people in the water, but wearing bright colors can also help them know when you are coming. You do not want to blend in with the water as a skier. This will also help you stand out if you have an emergency and need to be located quickly. 
  6. Check all equipment. In addition to following a safe speed limit and wearing the proper gear, you should make sure your equipment is in working order and is safe to use. Check your skis, foot bindings, and towlines before entering the water. Never participate in water skiing if any of your equipment is unsafe or incorrectly working.
