The benefits of spinning can help exercisers achieve a large variety of fitness goals which has led to spinning becoming the cardiovascular exercise of choice for many gym enthusiasts. The actually activity of spinning takes place on specially designed stationary bicycles manufactured exclusively for these classes. Spinning classes are held in gyms across the country and are strategically coordinated with dimmed lights and pulsating music to help keep the class motivated for the duration of the exercise program. The average participant in spinning will realize many benefits after a consistent record of class attendance.

  • Increased cardiovascular activity is the most prominent benefit of spinning. The intense nature of spinning keeps the heart rate square in the target heart rate zone for the larger portion of the class, which allows for maximum conditioning benefits. Over time, the increased cardiovascular capacity will allow for easier completion of physically taxing day to day activities, lowering blood pressure, and keeping more consistent energy levels.
  • Weight loss benefits are also realized with spinning. When the heart rate goes up, increased calorie burn will be following close behind. A 180 pound man who partakes of an hour long spinning class will burn, in most instances, a minimum of 572 calories. For the person who wishes to lose weight, spinning is a great way to get in a cardio workout; and for the person who wants to maintain their weight, spinning is an easy way to get in a necessary workout to maintain conditioning.
  • Muscle strengthening and toning is also a major benefit of spinning class. While the spinning cycle may be specially designed for these classes, it still works the same major muscles groups as a typical bicycle. The glutes and thighs will realize the largest portion of the muscle toning benefits while the calves and abdominal will also be strengthened with regular spinning.

Spinning is a workout that will provide numerous benefits to the body within the span of a 30 minute or 1 hour long class.
