India has been the birthplace for many of the top cricketers for generations and, as a result, it has some of the world’s finest grounds. Records have been broken and legends have been born in several of the country’s cricket stadiums.

  1. Wankhede Stadium Located in the city of Mumbai, this 45,000 capacity stadium has been host to the West Indies tour of 1974 and been the site of the fastest double century in first class cricket. With its rich history and seaside location, it is one of the best Indian cricket stadiums to date.
  2. M.A. Chidambaram Stadium Able to hold a larger crowd than the Wankhede Stadium, the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is regarded as one of the best Indian cricket stadiums. It has a distinguished history, holding its first Test in 1934 and being the home of many cricket match records. The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium is seen as the spiritual home of Indian cricket.

  3. Feroz Shah Kotla First established in 1883, it has also been known as the Willingdon Pavilion. One of the best Indian cricket stadiums, it was the place where legendary cricketer, Geoff Boycott broke the world record Test aggregate. Since then it has seen many other memorable moments such as Sunil Gavaskar achieving the highest number of Test centuries and Sachin Tendulkar besting that record with an all time high of 35 Test centuries.

  4. Sardar Patel Stadium A large ground with a 54,000 capacity, Sardar Patel Stadium is also one of the best Indian cricket stadiums. Located on the riverbanks of Sabarmati River just outside Ahmedabad, it features hi-tech floodlights and high quality covered stands. It was built on 50 acres of land that was donated by the state government.

  5. Eden Gardens One of the biggest and best Indian cricket stadiums, Eden Gardens hosted its first test in 1934 and has not looked back. The ground has a colorful history that includes some the best moments in cricket and some of the worst, such as the riots during the West Indies matches of 1966.
