Here is a list of the best Philip Seymour Hoffman movies. One of Hollywoods greatest actors, Hoffman is not only recognized for his acting ability in movies, but also his directing, producing and theater work.

  1. "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (1999). One of the best Philip Seymour Hoffman films in the earlier part of his career was "The Talented Mr. Ripley" which also starred Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Cate Blanchett. Hoffman played the character Freddie Miles who was friends with well known socialites living abroad in Europe. Ripley played by Matt Damon has to take extreme measures to keep everyone quiet about the disappearance of one of their dear friends.
  2. "Capote" (2005). This movie was a biopic about a part of Truman Capote's life when he was writing the book "In Cold Blood" about the murder of a family in a rural Kansas town. It was definitely the best Philip Seymour Hoffman movie throughout his esteemed career and won him many awards including an Oscar.
  3. "Charlie Wilson's War" (2007). Another biopic co-starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts was about a Texas Congressman who helped take down the Soviet Union but in turn built up the army of Islam. This was another superb Philip Seymour Hoffman movie that got him a nomination for best supporting actor role as C.I.A. agent Gust L. Avrakotos.
  4. "Doubt" (2008). A very controversial role for Hoffman, but still one of his best movies, "Doubt" questioned a Catholic priest's character and actions with a boy who attended a school there. Hoffman was nominated for many awards as a result of this movie, but unfortunately didn't take home the win. Meryl Streep and Amy Adams co-starred in this tumultuous drama.
