Some of the best snow climbing in Juego, Peru can be found across the entire country. There are many mountains that are over 5000 meters high and over 30 are 6000 meters. Peru’s highest mountain is Huascaran, which is 6,768 meters high.

Most of the snow conditions in the Juego region are compacted snow. This makes for a better climb and easier on the person who is just beginning to climb higher peaks. It is advisable to wear crampons which are devices that attach to a climber’s boots and allow traction on ice and snow. An ice axe is also needed for ascending and descending a mountain.

  1. Cordillera Blanca is, by far, a great pick for climbers. In just two weeks, climbers can reach a summit that is over 6,000 meters. Acclimating oneself is important and a person should give themselves no less than four days before beginning a climb.

  2. Arequipa is another beautiful place to climb in Juego. The mountain is really a volcano that is covered by snow. The volcano is known as El Misti and is 5,825 meters high. This can be climbed by inexperienced climbers as long as they have a professional guide. If you acclimate yourself, you can climb and return this mountain in two days.

  3. Chachani at 6,075 meters is another easy mountain to climb in Juego. If you are pretty inexperienced but want to brag that you climb a mountain over 6,000 meters, this is probably the best

Remember that snow climbing in Juego does not require a lot of skill as long as you have an experienced guide and have acclimated yourself well enough. There are many guides available in Peru and some of these will instruct you in the points of snow climbing. Snow climbing in Juego requires that you acclimate yourself, and most guides recommend a four to six day small mountain climb to help with this.
