Best Video Game Villains

Walk into any comic book, horror, or science fiction convention and you will hear the debate over the best video game villains. Everyone has their favorite but there are several that consistently hit the top of the charts. Some fans would even argue that there is a top ten list for the best video game villains. Admittedly, there are a handful of villains that do stand out in many gamers memories.

1. Sephiroth. Sephiroth, who made his debut in Final Fantasy VII, showed that good intentions do indeed pave the road to hell. This parental genetic experiment gone wrong takes out his anger and aggression until his defeat at the hands of Cloud.
2. Psycho Mantis. Metal Gear Solid game the gamer a masterpiece of horror with Psycho Mantis. Strength, Telepathy, and the ability to take over everything including your gaming experience is not a bad show of force for a video game villain.
3. Ganon. The Legend of Zelda remains a classic in the video game world. Along with that classic came a classic villain in the form of Ganon. He has remained a fresh experience throughout the Zelda series.
4. Bowser. There is no gamer alive that has not had his Mario Brothers dreams crushed by the nightmare known as Bowser. He is a true Lillian for the brothers Mario and has left his huge turtle mark on the video game villain list.
5. Dracula. After topping the literature villain list, movie villain list, and tabletop RPG list he felt that he simply must take sweep the categories and take the video game villain list. With Castlevania he left his mark and secured his spot on the villain top ten.
6. Darth Malak. For any fan of Bioware and Star Wars the name Darth Malak even makes Vadar cringe. Malak was the Star Wars answer to Hitler. Knights of the Old Republic showed that having no morals and taking out your own master should be the beginning of your path to evil not the pinnacle of it.
7. Arthas. The name that launched a thousand scourge. Arthas was the golden boy of gaming in the Warcraft community until his cringe worthy smile in Warcraft III. Arthas made his mark and secured a place a top the list of video game villains. A spin off MMORPG wasn't a bad touch either.
8. Diablo A top video game villain list would not be a true list without Diablo. Feature villain of the Diablo series corrupts the soul of just about anything he can get his Lord of Terror claws on.
9. Cats You simply have to give a nod to Cats from Zero Wing if for no other reason that the famous line quoted through the gamer community “All your base are belong to us.” There is nothing worse than a villain with a grammar problem.
10. Hogger Take five minutes to create an Alliance character on World of Warcraft and count the times you see requests for groups to kill Hogger. He may look innocent and low level enough but this guy can keep many an Alliance gamer stuck next to a lake in repeat attempts to take his life. A villain that makes you cringe even seventy level later.

Villains in gaming come and go but only a select few stay in the minds of millions of fans. Even if the gamer has never played half of the list given here, they still know the name. That is the sign of a true leader in the list of best video game villain.
