Best Video Games of 2009
Here is a list of the Best Video Games of 2009. Video game releases in 2009 were preceded with a high amount of anticipation from gamers. With the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 both still in their primes and following a string of highly successful releases from the previous two years, expectations left no room for understanding. A few sequels had a lot to live up to given what gamers experienced in titles such as "Uncharted" and "Call of Duty 4." Studios and designers were up to the task as evidenced by the outpouring of brilliant titles, some of which rightfully earn the privilege of being called masterpieces.
-
"New Super Mario Bros." Everyone remembers the original "Super Mario Bros." games from the old Nintendo and Super Nintendo. They were of a formula that cannot fail, so it is obvious that a new game utilizing the latest in video game technology while returning to that formula would be a huge success.
-
"Left 4 Dead 2." This sequel heavily builds on the gameplay of the original "Left 4 Dead." In simple terms, need we ask for more?
-
"Assassin's Creed II." The original "Assassin's Creed" was a pretty cool idea that combined science fiction and history with tight gameplay. The sequel is more of the same and that is nowhere near a bad thing.
-
"Batman: Arkham Asylum." The best Batman game ever produced. There have been a few good ones in recent times, but "Arkham Asylum" blows them all out of the water. Even in terms outside of Batman games, this is an excellent video game. Period!
-
"FIFA Soccer '10." Sports games are pretty much assured successes, but EA Sports always strives to achieve something more. We could have easily included "Madden 2010" in place of "FIFA," but it truly is the better sports game.
- "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." Okay, "Modern Warfare" was insanely awesome. It was "Call of Duty's" first foray into the territory of modern war and man, did it blow gamers away or what? So come on, what do you expect from the sequel?
- "The Beatles: Rock Band." "Rock Band" follows a truly unique and engrossing formula. Then they added the legendary Beatles to the mix! It's like music and video game heaven.
-
"NBA 2K10." It was a toss-up between this and "NBA Live '10." It may be blasphemous to go against EA Sports, but this was actually a pretty awesome game.
- "Borderlands." This is like a first-person shooter combined with a role-playing game. Something that isn't revolutionary, but when it's executed like this, you take notice.
-
"Uncharted 2: Among Thieves." Okay, we're prepared to make this statement. This is the greatest game ever created! We know it's a bold statement, but to be honest, it felt almost like a sin to be having this much fun playing a video game. From the graphics to the gameplay to the story, "Uncharted 2" is perfection! Case closed.
