Married in 2008, pop artist Beyonce and rap artist Jay-Z are one of the hottest celebrity couples out there. From fashion lines to number one albums, these two have found success and fortune together and individually. Before they were a powerhouse couple, these two talented artists already made a name for themselves and will no doubt continue to do so.
Beyonce Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, and first appeared on the music scene as the lead singer for the popular 1990s group Destiny's Child. During her time with Destiny's Child, the group won several awards including two Grammy awards for the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals. Beyonce would later go on to win a Grammy in 2004 for her duet with Luther Vandross in "The Closer I Get To You." That same year Beyonce broke away from Destiny's Child and began her solo career. Beyone is also known for her acting roles including Foxxy Cleopatra in "Austin Powers in Gold Member" and Xania in "The Pink Panther." Aside from singing and acting, Beyonce created her own clothing line, House of Dereon, and a perfume named Heat.
Jay-Z, whose given name is Shawn Corey Carter, was born in Brooklyn, New York, and first appeared on the rap scene in the late 1980s with a few lines on Jaz-O's track "The Originators." Jay-Z hit it big in 1996 when he and fellow rapper Kareem Biggs created Roc-A-Fella Records. Soon after, Jay-Z released his debut album called "Reasonable Doubt." Since then, Jay-Z has received over ten Grammy awards for his solo and collaborative efforts as a rapper. He has also achieved major success on the Billboard charts with four number one hits and the record for the most albums to reach number one by a solo artist. Jay-Z is also known for his entrepreneurial skills: he is the founder of Rocawear, the former CEO of Def Jam Recordings and the co-owner of the popular New York club 40/40. As a major sports fan, Jay-Z is also a part owner of New Jersey Nets.
While the two were rumored to be dating in the early 2000s, they first worked together on the 2002 song "03 Bonnie & Clyde." The two have since then worked on several tracks together including "Crazy in Love," "Deja Vu," and "Upgrade U." The two were officially married in a small, private ceremony in April 2008 and prefer to keep a low profile as a couple. Beyonce has revealed in several interviews that their relationship is based on mutual respect and adoration for the other's talents and successes.
