Bullying Statistics

Bullying statistics prove that this problem is just as prevalent in adults as it is with kids.  It was once believed that bullying was reserved for the playground, but it is just as likely to be found in an office setting.  Once a bully leaves the confines of the school yard, he or she can be found almost anywhere in society emotionally, verbally, or physically abusing others.

  1. Workplace bullying.  Nearly half of all Americans have been affected by workplace bullying.  This means workers have been a target of bullies or have witnessed someone being bullied.  Thirteen percent of American workers believe that they are currently bullied, and twenty-four percent believe they have been bullied in the past.
  2. Gender.  Bully statistics show that if you’re a woman you are at a greater risk for being bullied.  Women can be bullied by other women, and statistically speaking there is a seventy-one percent chance if you are a women your bully will also be a woman.
  3. School bullies.  Out of a survey of 1,229 boys and girls nearly half of the respondents said they had been bullied before.  Twenty-two percent of the kids also admitting to bullying others at some point in time, and fifteen percent said they bullied other kids everyday.
  4. Cyberbullies.  About one third of teenagers who regularly use the Internet admit they have been the target of cyberbullies.  The online behavior includes annoying and potentially dangerous behavior by perpetrating bullies.  As in the workplace, females are more likely to be a target.
