Calories Burned Running

Are you wondering just how many calories are burned running? Running is a great way to not only get exercise, but to keep in shape, strengthen muscles in the legs and boost our cardiovascular system. But how many calories are burned when you run? Is it the same or higher when someone goes for a walk? A report by the Medicine and Science in Sports and Excerise stated that for a man, running would burn 124 calories while a woman burned off 105 calories.

This study was done with a test group on treadmills for about a mile. This is, of course, just a typical standard length for a runner; actual caloric burn off is determined by the runner. If a person decides to run a mile, depending on their speed, body weight and height, calories might be burned more or less. The best way to determine the calories that can be shed is to either use a timer or an app that can determine your speed and how far you have run.

Luckily, with the rise of mobile technology, runners are able to keep track of their speed, how far they've run and how many calories that you've lost. Depending on your type of phone, there are many different types of apps that can be downloaded either for free or a small price. It's important that you speak to your doctor, especially if you went in to discuss any concerns you might have had in regards to your health.

Knowing about the calories burned while running can help you know how many calories you are losing, especially if you need to keep track of your intake. As mentioned, running is a great way to not only lose weight, but keep in shape.
