Cheap Life Insurance Policies
Life insurance, especially cheap life insurance policies, can make people feel as if they are worth more dead than alive. All quips aside, life insurance can help ease the financial burden that results from the loss of income of the deceased. A life insurance policy is one of the best things a person can do for their family to prepare for the day that they might no longer be there. But with family budgets getting tighter, how can you find cheap life insurance policies that will still provide at a time of need?
- Many company’s are offering an insurance plan that is called mortgage protection or mortgage insurance plans. Since the family house is often the largest expense, having something in place that at least covers the owed balance on the house can be the basis of a cheap life insurance policy. Premiums on such plans tend to run lower because the benefit they pay out decreases over the life of the plan. As an example, say the balance on the house is $200,000 with 27 years left to go. This life insurance policy would have a term of 27 years and decrease to a $0 benefit as the end is approached, as the balance owed on the house would be equal. The premiums run less than a comparable policy, but the trade off is less gets paid out as it matures.
- Accidental death can provide for cheap life insurance policies, providing very high benefit payouts for very small premiums. In fact, premiums on these types of life policies are the smallest of any policy, as they will only pay out if the death is due to accidental death. These can often work well for young, healthy people who are likely to meet an untimely end only by accidental means. The drawback to such policies, though, is they pay the death benefit in very limited circumstances.
- Term life is the preferred way to obtain cheap life insurance policies, as they build no cash value, have defined death benefits and a defined period in which they will pay out. As an example, a person takes out a $250,000 policy that is good for twenty years and will pay X a month during that time. The premium is determined by age, gender and such factors like tobacco use. Due to the defined time frames, term life policies will run less expensive on a monthly basis than other types.
- Group life is an often overlooked way of getting cheap insurance polices, as many tend to think of these as benefits or perks that are offered by certain employers. But your job is only one place where group insurance, due to their unique risk models, often has the lowest premiums of all life insurance. Many fraternal organizations offer group life to their members, as well as certain financial institutions. Keep in mind that the reason for such group’s existence isn’t just for the purchase of life insurance and often has other perks as well. Elks, Lions and Rotary Clubs are just three examples of such organizations. If you’re otherwise eligible to join, serious think about it.
- Lastly, in the quest for cheap life insurance policies, just spending a couple of hours shopping around online or spending time with an agent that represents many different lines and companies can pay off big. Consider taking out smaller policies as well, as there are some as low as $4 a month for a $50,000, twenty-year term policy. You can also minimize your premiums by keeping yourself healthy and not using tobacco products of any kind. Any medical condition and especially smoking can drive premiums up.
