Chinese men’s gymnastics history is full of interesting facts and medals for this nation. Often times in Chinese men’s gymnastics, the athletes start training at a very young age. While this training can be grueling and intense, overall it is highly effective in creating very successful and skilled Chinese male gymnasts.
- Training. The history of men’s gymnastics in China involves starting training at a very young age, often when muscles and bone structures are nowhere near developed. While this is common in other countries, as well, it doesn’t often come with the same amount of painful exercises and stretches meant to condition the body for gymnastics as it does in China.
- Philosophy. The male children in China are told to think of gymnastics as their lifetime challenge to get through the pain and agony of the workouts. This attitude is important because often times the families of the gymnasts put their life savings into the training in the hopes that the child can bring a better future for themselves and their family as a star athlete. If a Chinese male gymnasts quits before becoming successful, it can mean hardship for the family.
- World Gymnastic Championship. Chinese men’s gymnastics history includes several gold medals in the World Gymnastics Championship, including in the years 1995, 1996 and 1997. The Chinese men’s gymnastics team has also won the entire championship three consecutive times, starting in 2005. This has been a great accomplishment for the country and has helped progress the sport in China.
- Olympics. There have been many Olympic victories in Chinese men’s gymnastics history, and some have been more significant than others. For example, a young gymnast of only 16 years old, Feng Jin, was the youngest ever to win the men’s all-around in 2001. Several medals were won by China in the Olympics of 1996, 2000 and 2007, to name a few more recent competitions. Overall, the men involved in Chinese gymnastics are not changing their training philosophy simply because it’s been proven to work.
