From theme to taste, a dinner menu is nothing without. Items needed for the Christmas dinner menu:

  • Appetizer
  • Main Entree
  • Side Dish
  • Beverages
  • Rolls or Bread
  • Dessert
  1. Appetizers are a great addition to any Christmas dinner menu. Appetizers, such as salads, crackers and cheese, can cleanse the pallet, so to speak.  Salads can include potato salad or traditional green salad. Little squares of cut cheese brings taste to most salads. Place a couple of salads or a crackers and cheese display with silverware and plates at an easy to reach table.
  2. Main entree matters, absolutely. Turkey, ham, chicken, goose or even fish can be a great main entree to a Christmas dinner. When coming up with a scheme of Christmas dinner menu ideas you have to consider what goes with the taste of an entree.
  3. Dressings include from outside stuffing (nut, bread, etc) to other table treats, such as a lemon dressing. To give your stuffing extra taste splash 2 tablespoons of the leftover juices in the pan of the cooked meat on top of the dressing.
  4. Mashed potatoes and gravy go hand in hand on most Christmas dinner menus. Keeping the gravy in another bowl with spoon allows your guests to scoop a desired amount to pour on their warm, fluffy mashed potatoes.
  5. Side dishes such as yams, sauces, slaws can be a sticky and potentially runny. To keep the yam flavors and add a yummy touch pour a dash of honey on top and cover with marshmallows. To keep cranberry sauce from dripping add some stuffing along the corners of the dish. The stuffing will absorb the sauce making the stuffing even more tasteful. For slaw simply drain off some of the juices from the dish.
  6. Black or green olives can go with just about anything, except ketchup. Push a toothpick through a cheese square and through the olive then place on a dish.  Cover open dish space with olives. Parsley works too.
  7. Christmas greens, peas and corn comes best when buttered. Green beans, peas and corn can go with or without a mix, separately or together. You can also toss some green peas and corn into salads for an extra veggie taste.
  8. Rolls, those little round portions of decorative bread that make any meal extra special, can go with or without butter. Jams can also spread nicely during a Christmas dinner so don't rule jams out. Bake the rolls or purchase packaged.
  9. Beverages, whether alcohol or non-alcohol, should come with each dinner. Coffee or tea can be served before or after a dinner. Christmas drinks can include Egg Nog. A glass of water or even hot cocoa is a great addition for the healthy or feasting young.
  10. Desserts can be cakes, ice cream, shakes or even pies and cookies. Having a Christmas dinner without a dessert is like taking a ham sandwich to a banquet, your dinner would be underdressed.
