There are a number of different cities in Texas, as it is a very big state with a large population. These cities are located in different regions of this vast state, all with different populations and all with different attractions. Knowing details about these cities in Texas will help you to decide which ones you want to visit when you are driving through the Lone Star State or thinking about coming to Texas for a vacation.

  1. Austin, Texas. The state capital of Texas, Austin is considered one of the coolest cities in Texas. It has tons of live music, presumably more then any other place in the entire world. It has the University of Texas located in it, who has great sports teams and a young, vibrant and progressive culture. It has great Tex-Mex and bar-b-que and lakes and rivers in and around it, allowing you to cool off over the summer. Visiting Austin is a must if you really want to go to one of the better cities in Texas.
  2. San Antonio, Texas. Located about an hour south of Austin, San Antonio is one of the bigger cities in Texas, with a number of different attractions which draw numerous tourists every year. There is the world famous Alamo, where Texans fought for independence against a much larger Mexican Army. There is also the river walk, where hotels, bars and restaurants are built along a river that people can walk or boat along and eat, drink and party. San Antonio is also known for their talented professional basketball team, the San Antonio Spurs.
  3. Dallas, Texas. One of the most well-known cities in Texas primarily for it's sports teams and the television show which was named after it, Dallas is also one of the biggest. It has some of the most restaurants per capita and is also spread out across the plains of Northern Texas, near the Oklahoma and Texas border. Dallas is so large that it has a sister city of Fort Worth, located right beside it.
  4. Houston, Texas. The largest city in the state of Texas, Houston is located on the gulf of Mexico and incorporates a number of different communities in it's general metropolitan area. Houston is also known for it's sports teams, like the Houston Rockets basketball team, the Houston Astros baseball team and the Houston Texans professional football team. It also has the headquarters of NASA in it's city limits, and will be forever synonymous with the quote of "Houston, we have a problem." The humid almost tropical climate makes Houston a warm weather getaway for some people.
