Looking for Clown Fish facts? These colorful, striped fish are a constant source of curiously–partially thanks to the movie Finding Nemo–and many people are starting to consider them as possible pets. Consider these facts before purchasing this fish, however.

1. On average, clown fish live up to six to ten years on average. But some of them can live up to 18 years, according to National Geographic. If you're in the market for these pets, make sure you can devote at least a decade's worth of time to its care and maintenance.
2. Clown fish feed on particular varieties of food. Recommended suggestions include frozen worms, shrimp and algae. In the wild, they often feed on vulnerable shellfish and algae, when they are most readily available to them. Feeding them regularly will ensure they live a healthy and active life.
3. It is important to keep these fish in a large, saltwater tank. Clown fish should be kept in an 20 gallon tank at the very least, with recommendations going up to 40 gallon tanks. A good saltwater filtration system is also key for ensuring these pets stay healthy all year long. Not maintaining a clean environment for them could possibly make them sick or kill them.
4. They can change their gender. Here's a fun fact: all clown fish are born male. They may change their gender for a variety of reasons. Only females can produce eggs, however, and the more dominant fish may choose this gender. Less dominant fish may retain their male status.
