If you’re temporarily leaving your main squeeze to head off to a university, you’ll want to read through these college long distance relationship tips. Maintaining a relationship during college is hard enough, but doing it when physically separated takes extra effort. Follow the advice below if you want to enjoy college life and still keep your high school sweetheart.

  1. Communicate frequently. It might be hard to always make time to talk with your girlfriend when you’re busy socializing and studying, but the two of you should establish certain times to talk on the phone every week. Work out your schedules and remain flexible with each other if you want to keep a college long distance relationship. If phone conversations are getting dry, try performing activities while talking, like watching the same TV show together. You can also always spice things up with a little phone sex (but remain courteous to your roommate and wait till you’re alone to get down and dirty).
  2. Take turns visiting each other. It’s not fair to have one person in the long distance relationship always traveling and missing out on social activities at their campus. Switch off on visits to see each other. This way you’ll also be able to participate fully in each other’s college lives and get to know each other’s friends.
  3. Take advantage of your time together. Don’t expect to be able to just chill all day with Doritos when your girlfriend takes a plane ride to come visit you. It takes a bit more planning to keep a college long distance relationship alive. Plan a few activities out for her stay, and hopefully, she’ll do the same for you. You don’t need to completely fill up your calendar, try for a nice dinner, a local party, or a college football game. Also, talk with your roommates about privacy during your girlfriend’s visits, she’ll appreciate getting a little sexy alone time with you without worrying about your roommate barging in.
  4. Reassess the situation if need be. Long distance college relationships are tough work. You might find yourself unsatisfied with the fact that you only see your girlfriend once a month. Or you might discover that you’re growing attracted to other girls and want some freedom to explore the single life. Just make sure that you’re honest with yourself and your girlfriend. Make sure, too, that your girlfriend isn’t starting to have doubts herself by talking with her about the relationship and where you both see it going.
