If colon cancer runs in your family you may want to be aware of colon cancer symptoms and signs. Although generally when a disease runs in a family line you will be screened for it on a regular basis it is still good to know the signs and symptoms of what you should be looking for.

  1. Bowel Movements. This could be a sign of symptom of colon cancer if your bowel movements have become irregular for more than a few weeks. This could include constipation or diarrhea or even just a change in the consistency. Also check for blood in your bowel movement or other rectal bleeding.
  2. Abdominal Discomfort. Signs and symptoms of colon cancer can be various forms of abdominal discomfort. This could include feel bloated even after a bowel movement or feeling as though your colon isn’t empty. Cramping and other abdominal discomfort could be signs of colon cancer.
  3. Other Signs and Symptoms. Colon cancer signs and symptoms can also include weight loss, fatigue, shortness of breath, and general weakness. Basically the symptoms you would have if you had the flu.
  4. See a Doctor. If you are experiencing any of these problems there is a variety of conditions it could be other than colon cancer. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Ulcerative Colitis, and Crohn’s Disease are just a few of the other conditions that mimic colon cancer signs and symptoms. Colon cancer can be present in your body long before you experience any symptoms at all. Be proactive and have regular colon cancer screening especially if you are considered a high risk candidate when it runs in your family.
