From Comedy Cellar to Comic Strip Live, comedy clubs NYC offer some of the best comedic performances in the nation. New York, NY is one of the entertainment capitals of the United States, so it is not surprising that it is home to many notable comedy clubs. Dozens of comedy clubs are located throughout the city, but only a few are notable for consistently booking some of the best comedians around.

  1. Comedy Cellar. Although it is an actual cellar, this comedy club is host to some of the most famous people in comedy. Jon Stewart, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle are a few of the prominent comedians that perform at the Comedy Cellar. Usually the Comedy Cellar will have 17 shows per week, with comedians performing seven days a week. Guests must be 21 and over, pay an admission fee and order at least two drinks.   2. Gotham Comedy Club.  One of the most well known comedy clubs in NYC, Gotham Comedy Club has premiered famous comedians such as Dane Cook, Larry David and Lewis Black. During "Live At Gotham," six new comedians can showcase their talent in one hour. Guests are required to buy at least two drinks and pay an admission fee.   3. Comic Strip Live. Eddie Murphy, Sarah Silverman and Adam Sandler started in the entertainment business by performing at Comic Strip Live. This comedy club in NYC often sells out weekend shows fast, so it is recommended to get a reservation weeks in advance. Guests are required to order at least two drinks and pay an admission fee.   4. Caroline's on Broadway. One of the most famous NYC comedy clubs, Caroline's on Broadway has introduced famous comedians like Jay Leno and Tim Allen. Several other comedians like Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld and Robin Williams have performed at this comedy club as well.   5. New York Comedy Club.  New and some prominent comedians are featured at New York Comedy Club. Since tickets at this comedy club sell out quickly, reservations are recommended. Guests are required to pay admission and purchase at least two drinks. Admission is offered to anyone over the age of 16, and comedy classes are available for the public.
