For best results, those who are new to bowling must be sure to use a bowling ball that is of a proper weight. Typically, when choosing a bowling ball, a new bowler should be able to comfortable lift the ball with one hand.
- Choosing a ball that is too heavy. Choosing a ball that is too heavy can not only result in athlete injury, but can also significantly decrease athletic performance. For best results, the ball should be able to be comfortably lifted with one hand.
- Forgetting about spin. Often, new bowlers forget that a ball will spin to the opposite side of the alley from the hand from which the ball was thrown. For example, when throwing a bowling ball with the right hand, it typically will spin towards the left side of the lane. Because of this, it is important for bowlers to start the ball slighlty to the right side of the bowling lane.
- Not putting in enough practice. Another of the most common bowling mistakes for beginners is failing to put in enough practice. As with other sports, it is essential to put in plenty of time and practice in order to become skilled at the sport. Ideally, new bowlers should put in at least thirty minutes each day in order to progress. Those who put in even more practice can progress at an even faster rate.
