Common STD Symptoms
The most common STD symptoms are those symptoms that you will begin seeing on your own, illness-infested body when you have had sexual intercourse without the proper protection. Not practicing abstinence (that's complete abstinence with no cheating by having oral sex or something like that!) or not being in a committed monogamous relationship will also increase your chances of getting the dreaded STDs.
- You experience pain as you urinate. When you experience pain during urination, you know immediately that something is wrong with your body; that's why this symptom is the most common STD symptom. It immediately makes you stand up and take notice of what signal your body is telling you. Pain during urination can occur with STDs like chlamydia and gonorrhea, and you should immediately go and check with a doctor if you notice this very common sign of a possible STD infection.
- You feel the pain of your sexual intercourse. Another great common STD symptom that should get your alarm bells ringing immediately is if you endure pain while you are undergoing the motions of sexual intercourse. Since sexual intercourse is theoretically supposed to be a pleasurable experience—made even more pleasurable if done inside of a marriage or long-term, monogamous relationship—feeling pain while "doing it" likely means that you should call a doctor just to be sure. After all, if it turns out to be an STD, you want it nipped in the bud as soon as possible.
- You experience discharge out of your penis. In this case, discharge does not mean ejaculation, as in the the so-called climax of the sexual act when your penis and testicles are at the utmost height of their sexual-based excitability. If you have an STD, the type of discharge coming out of your penis will not be semen; instead, it will usually be a fluid that can be cloudy, unusually thick or, God forbid, even bloody at times. If you endure this type of discharge out of your penis, by all means, it is time to see a doctor.
