Corn Dog Recipe

Make your favorite fast food at home with this simple corn dog recipe. Corn dogs are tasty hot dogs on a stick coated with corn meal batter and deep fried until golden brown. Eat corn dogs hot with a squirt of yellow mustard. With this corn dog recipe, you will be serving hot corn dogs within minutes.

To make corn dogs, you will need:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/3 cups corn meal
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1 to 1-1/2 pounds hot dogs
  • Deep fat fryer
  • Vegetable oil for Deep Frying
  • Popsicle sticks

Make the corn dog batter:

  1. Fill the deep fryer with oil and preheat to 375 degrees F.
  2. Combine milk, eggs, oil, sugar, and salt in a large bowl and mix well.
  3. Slowly add the baking powder, corn meal, and flour. Stir slowly until the batter is smooth.Pour some batter into a narrow tall container tall enough to dip the corn dog completely to the Popsicle stick.

Make the corn dogs:

  1. Remove the hot dogs from the package and pat them dry with a paper towel. 
  2. Insert a Popsicle stick into each hot dog.
  3. Dust the hot dogs with flour coating them completely. Set the hot dogs aside.
  4. Coat the corn dogs with batter. Hold the corn dog by the Popsicle stick and slowly dip and swirl it in the batter all the way to the stick. Pull the fully coated corn dog out of the batter and let the excess drip off. Place the corn dog in the deep fat fryer immediately. Fry until the corn dog is golden brown. Remove from the deep fat fryer with tongs and drain of paper towels.

Tips and Warnings:

  • Another way to coat the corn dogs is to place the batter in a bowl of batter and swirl it.
  • The corn dog batter will not stick to the hot dogs unless it has been completely dusted with flour.
  • Cook two or three corn dogs at one time. Crowding corn dogs into the fryer will inhibit the cooking process.
  • Use extreme caution when cooking with hot oil to avoid spills or splashes that can cause serious burns.
