Crescent Roll Recipes
There are hundreds of crescent roll recipes available. You can either make homemade crescent rolls or use the canned version. Although, it is so simple to pop a can open and make some of these mouth-watering delights, you must realize that homemade crescent roll are something to taste and savor.
Homemade Crescent Rolls
Nothing smells better than homemade crescent rolls on the dinner plate. Just imagine a nice turkey dinner with cranberry sauce and a few dozen piping hot crescent rolls next to you.
Ingredients:
- 3 to 3-1/2 cups enriched flour
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 package instant dry active yeast
- 1 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1 stick butter, room temperature
Directions:
- Place the flour on a large working surface, along with the salt and yeast. If you are using regular yeast, you must dissolve the yeast in some warm water prior to using it.
- Place half of the melted butter, egg and sugar in a bowl and beat with a fork until the sugar is dissolved. Add the butter mixture to the flour mixture and mix well.
- Take the warm water and start mixing it in slowly with the flour mixture. Make the dough into a ball.
- Butter a bowl, place the dough ball in the bowl and cover. Allow the bread to double for approximately two hours. Divide the dough into two pieces.
- Roll each piece into a circle and cut each circle into triangles. Brush the crescents with butter and roll them up.
- Roll up the crescent, starting at the widest end. Place each crescent roll on a buttered baking pan.
- Curve the crescent rolls around slightly like you would a croissant. Cover the rolls and allow them to raise for another half hour.
- Brush the tops of each crescent roll with the remaining butter. Bake the crescent rolls in a preheated 400 degree oven for twelve to fifteen minutes or until done.
Pigs in a Blanket
Of course, there had to be a pigs in a blanket recipe. Why, it would be un-American not to include a recipe for this traditional treat. Here is a recipe that's short and sweet.
Ingredients:
- 2 cans crescent rolls
- 1 package thin hot dogs
- Non-stick cooking spray
Directions:
- Purchase the thinner style hot dogs. Use whatever kind you want, whether they are chicken, turkey or beef.
- Open the can of crescent rolls and spread out the dough on a flat surface. Cut each hot dog in half.
- Lay one hot dog on each triangle piece. Start rolling the dog up in the dough starting with the widest end and ending with the tip.
- Spray a baking pan with some non-stick cooking spray. Place the pigs in a blanket on the baking pan.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for eight minutes or until done. These crescent rolls are to be served with lots of mustard and potato chips.
Note: Pigs in a blankets are traditionally made with regular biscuits, so if crescent rolls are not available, use regular biscuits.
Broccoli and Cheese Crescent Triangles
These crescent rolls are very healthy and tasty. The ingredients are processed in a food processor and then spread on the crescent rolls to bake. Serve these for lunch alongside a cup of soup.
Ingredients:
- 2 cans crescent rolls
- 2 cups chopped broccoli
- 3 oz. cheese (goat is nice)
- 2 green onions
- 1/3 cup oregano leaves (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp. oil (virgin olive oil is best)
- Non-stick cooking spray
Directions:
- Put the broccoli, oregano, onions and cheese in a food processor. Pulse slowly until all the ingredients are mixed.
- Add the oil, salt and pepper. Open the cans of crescent rolls and lay them flat on a surface.
- Coat a baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Thinly spread some of the broccoli mixture on each triangle. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for twelve minutes or until done.
