Cultural Capitals

Cultural capitals are good for tourism. Many people these days want something more out of their travels. These capitals have learned the importance, and economic benefits, of touting their cultural significance. Maybe it's historical, or the presence of new museums and galleries. These cultural capitals will leave the tourist with more than just a t-shirt when they go home. These capitals rely on more than sandy beaches to pull people in. They offer arts, museums and areas of tremendous historical value.

1. Glasgow, Scotland. This one of the cultural capitals was the first city in the UK to be called a culture capital. Since then Glasgow has added a Museum of Education and a Gallery of Modern Art. It also has the largest amount of live production theater outside of London. Music concerts at top venues, or plays, Glasgow runs an average of 9 live performances a day. And Glasgow itself is a magnet for thriving artistic communities.
2. Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona is making sure the world knows of its amazing architecture in this one of the cultural capitals. They also boast 9 World Heritage Sites like Casa Vicens and Crypt in Colonia Guell. Barcelona as long been known for its arts and amazing restaurants. It finally began to get real notice, though, when it lauded the historical significance of Antoni Gaudi-one of its great historical architects.
3. Singapore. This one of the cultural capitals threw its hat into the ring when it claimed itself the "Global City for the Arts". It has astounding art galleries featuring Asian and modern art. It also has several history museums covering both Singapore, and Asian civilizations in general.
4. Sacred City of Caral-Supe, Peru. This city is a recent addition to the World Heriatge Sites. It dates back 5,000 years to the Late Archaic Period. This one of the cultural capitals is considered the oldest area of civilization in the Americas. The site reveals pyramid structures; sunken courts and even a residence for the elite. 
5. Luxembourg. Exploration of this one of the cultural capitals should focus on its Old Quarters and Fortifications. It has a long history of being one of Europe's most well fortifide areas.This city has been reinforced and worked with throughout history, from the Romans to the Hapsburgs to the Prussians, because of its strategic value. It's situated at the cross of two major Roman roads. The first Ducal family set up in the Old Quarters of this city. The Grand Ducal Palace remains today.
