A discontinued camera can still be a commodity especially after you read this article about the Nikon D70 digital SLR camera's 5 best features to see why such a camera would still be valuable. Many photographers are used to operating cameras no longer sold on the open market because they’ve obtained either their grandparents old camera or due to funds are not able to divulge in the newest pieces on the market. Whatever the case maybe if you’re considering purchasing a Nikon D70 SLR camera here are the five best reasons why you should.

  1. Flash Exposure/Compensation. If you’ve ever had a digital SLR camera that lacked this feature then you know well the pains of obtaining a picture that syncs with the flash and compensates for areas lacking in light. The D70 corrects this issue with exposure and sync to the benefit of every photographer looking to amp up their pictures.
  2. Shutter speed. The Nikon D70’s fastest shutter speed clocks in at an amazing 1/8000th of a second! This best feature allows you to invest smartly in a camera that isn’t mainstream but has the ability to keep up with the current selections available. If you’re not concerned with speed then the Nikon D70 Digital SLR camera has an extended speed of 30 seconds (and more if you use manual).
  3. Auto White-balance. This setting compensates over “various conditions covering a mix of incandescent tungsten, fluorescent and even candle lights, allowing you to take those inside shots at the family dinner or the kids birthday party. The auto white-balance feature made the best feature list because it is often overlooked but in the D70 is resurrected to its important place of residence that it has in every camera.
  4. Viewfinder Grid. While the viewfinder on the D70 isn’t the greatest and it doesn’t offer the vertical correction feature of the D3x, it does sport gridlines that aid the landscaping photographer in obtaining the desired shot.
  5. Battery life. The life of a camera at any moment in time is dependent on the battery that supplies it. The D70 comes with “an EN-EL3 1400 mAH rechargeable lithium battery, which is good for up to 2000 images on a single charge.” That’s a full day worth of shooting.  And if you’re on a weekend trip but don’t have an extra EN-EL3 you’re supplied with a holder which allows you to insert three CR2 batteries. Talk about being charged up!

Although it is discontinued, the D70 was a formidable camera for its time and can still deliver on par with many of the cameras available today in terms of quality. If you’re looking to invest in a camera that was at the top of its game in 2004 in the prosumer market and you’re not looking to spend money for the latest products, the D70 Digital SLR camera is the way to go.
