Many Dave Matthews Band (DMB) albums are recorded live instead of in a studio. The band even allows their fans to record live concerts which, is a major reason for their popularity. Guitarist and frontman Dave Matthews founded the rock band in the early 1990’s. The Dave Matthews Band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and continues to be a touring force in the world of rock music.

  1. “Remember Two Things.” This 1993 album was recorded live and was the band’s debut album. It became a hit with college students around the U.S. which helped to get the band’s name out into the public. The album includes the first song that Dave Matthews ever wrote, “I’ll Back You Up.”
  2. “Under the Table and Dreaming.” This was the first studio album for Dave Matthews Band and it came out in 1994. The first song off the album “What Would You Say” climbed as high as nine on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream charts. The band also charted with “Satellite,” which reached number 18 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks. The band’s popularity continued to grow after this album due to Matthews’ unique voice and playing style.
  3. “Crash.” This Grammy-nominated 1996 DMB album was a huge hit and reached the second spot on the Billboard charts. The band won their only Grammy to date for the song “So Much to Say.” Another song from the album is “Too Much,” which was also was nominated for a Grammy and hit number five on the Billboard charts. After the success of this album, DMB was no longer considered an act that just college kids listened to.
  4. “Before These Crowded Streets.” This album was released in 1998 and earned Dave Matthews Band yet another Grammy nomination. The album reached the top spot on Billboard and had huge hits that included “Don’t Drink the Water,” which hit number four on Billboard. “Crush” was also a big hit off the album and it received another Grammy nomination for DMB.
  5. Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.” The seventh and most recent studio album from DMB came out in 2009. It was the fifth number one Billboard album in a row for the group and was nominated for two Grammys, bringing the band’s total nominations to fourteen, with just one win. The song “Funny the Way It Is” was made available to download for free on the band’s website, which helped the album to gain popularity.
