David Beckham Biography
Looking for the David Beckham biography? Love him or hate hime, you have to admire David Beckham for being able to turn athletic prowess into worldwide celebrity. Known as much for his tattoos and his glamorous wife, Beckham's greatest achievement has probably been to make Americans pay attention to soccer, if even for a minute. His real accomplishments have been on the field, however, and his career as a footballer is already legendary.
Born in 1975 in London, Beckham made his presence known in the soccer world early on. He had two unmistakeable strengths: he could pass the ball with uncanny ability, and his free kicks were deadly accurate. He made his entry into professional soccer with Manchester United and helped the team win six league titles, two FA Cups and the 1999 UEFA Champions League title.
Beckham took his fame to the international stage in 2003 when he made the move to play with the Real Madrid team. He was not as successful there as he was in England, and when the opporunity came to move to Los Angeles and join the Galaxy in 2007, he jumped at the chance. The world was aflutter with speculation over whether a star the likes of David Beckham could make soccer popular in America, and the LA Galaxy was willing to pay him a whole lot of money to find out. Struggling with injuries and skipping back to Europe to play with other teams in the off season, Beckham didn't make himself immediately beloved in the United States, but he did help the team to a couple of conference titles.
David Beckham married former Spice Girl Victoria Adams in 1999, and the couple, dubbed "Posh and Becks" by the press, became a loved-and-hated symbol of over-the-top glamour. They bought several extremely expensive homes and had three sons, Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. In 2011, the Beckhams were expecting their fourth child, this time a girl.
