The real-time strategy genre is known for its user-generated content, and these Dawn of War Dark Crusade mods only confirm this. Dawn of War Dark Crusade is the very popular real-time strategy game based on the Warhammer 40k mythos. The Dawn of War series has a rabid following, as is evident in its mod community. Featuring tons of mods, ranging from the simple and mundane to the insane total conversions, Dawn of War Dark Crusade has seen a lot of life from the modding community. These mods are just a small sample of what the Dawn of War Dark Crusade modding community has to offer.
- Capture the Flag. This simple modification adds everyone's favorite game, capture the flag, to the win conditions. The mod is quite simple: grab the flag, represented as a large red pillar of light, and bring it back to your base. Unfortunately, this mod does not have single-player AI, so it is a multiplayer only mod. Still, capture the flag is great fun when you are sick of the usual win conditions.
- DoWpro. DoWpro is a mod made by the number-crunching balance pushers of the mod community. This Dawn of War Dark Crusade mod completely tweaks the game. It is more of a balance fix mod than an added content mod. The racial trees are reworked, AI enhanced and general gameplay tweaked. Every unit has been tweaked, from abilities to speed. This is a mod for people looking for a more "balanced" version of the base game.
- Instant Epic Battle Mod. This mod gets right past the slow build up that games usually go through and adds a large amount of units on screen. It greatly increases the squad cap per race, meaning you can have far too many units on screen. This mod is great for when you just want to see epic battles.
- Installing mods. There are two ways to install Dark Crusade mods. The first is to download the mod manager, which can be found at http://dawnofwar.filefront.com; just search for "Dark Crusade mod installer." This will automatically install mods into the correct folder. The other way to do it is to drag or unzip all the files in the mod you downloaded into your root Dark Crusade directory, which is generally defaulted to "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War Dark Crusade". The mods will be selectable in-game.
