Decorating For A Mothers Day Tea Party
Hosting and decorating for a Mother’s Day tea party is a great way to celebrate the moms in your life. Whether it’s your wife, your mother-in-law, your own mom or a friend with kids, you’ll want the event to help her relax and feel truly appreciated. Here are some tips.
- Planning. As you’re planning the party, think about what atmosphere you’re going for. Are you inviting more than one mother or is the party for one special person? If it’s going to a big party, remember you’ll be wanting to go with more generic decorations to make all the mother’s feel welcome. If it’s for one specific person, go more person with the decorations.
- Atmosphere. In general, Mother’s Day tea parties are elegant. Think lace and ruffles. Opt for whites and pastels for linens and dishware. This traditional theme is also carried out in the food offered: tea in teacups, sugar and cream in chinaware, scones, mini sandwiches, and chocolates on a silver tray. For smaller, familial parties, rustle up what you can but for larger parties consider buying or borrowing these supplies.
- Flowers. Though they are the most popular Mother’s Day gift, they are still the best decoration for your tea. Nothing says celebration or adds splendor to a room like flowers. Roses are traditional but lilies are also a good choice.
- Photos. We appreciate mothers because of what they have given us: not just children, but also comfort, safety and joy. Photos are great Mother’s Day gifts but they’re also great decorations. Make a photo board, create a slideshow, or prop framed favorites on the tea table. Consider hiring a photographer to come and document the day so your special woman will have photos of the celebration for years to come.
