Whether your child attends a Delaware school or you work for the "first state's" education system, you have several ways to stay informed about Delaware school closings. Delaware schools may close for snow days or other emergencies, and these resources keep students, parents and educators in the loop.

  1. Schoolclosings.delaware.gov: The Delaware school closings website breaks down school closing and delay information by date and district. If a snowstorm or other emergency hits, check the site for updates about school closures or delays.
  2. Email Notification: If you prefer to have school closure announcements come to you, sign up for email notifications on the Delaware school closings website at schoolclosings.delware.gov. You might receive an unexpected notification when the weather is borderline and spare your kids the trouble of lugging their backpacks to the bus stop.
  3. Radio School Closure Announcements: Local radio stations will keep you on top of Delaware school closings. If you are not sure which radio stations provide school closure information, contact your local school district. Some districts even provide a list of district radio stations on their website, such as the Colonial School District in New Castle.
  4. Television School Closure Announcements: Local television will relay information about Delaware school closings. Just make sure to tune into local stations, because cable stations will not broadcast local information. You can also call your local television station for Delaware school closing information.

Tips:

Some Delaware school districts share similar names, so make sure the emergency school closing is for your district.

Delaware school closings can result in make-up days, so before the kids get too excited, remind them their summer might get a wee bit shorter. Contact your school district for more information about make-up days.
