Luckily, there are only a few detached retina symptoms. A detached retina is a very scary eye problem that is caused when the retina deviates from its normal position. The retina is a structure at the back of the eye consisting of several layers of cells. These cells contribute to most of your color perception, called rods and cones. Most of your eye’s sharpest vision comes from this structure. If you have the detached retina symptoms, it is best to seek help to have it treated as soon as possible. Retinal detachment causes the loss of your peripheral, or side vision. If your retinal detachment symptoms go untreated, you will risk going blind in the affected eye. Early diagnosis is key when you are experiencing detached retina symptoms.

  1. Flashing lights. If you see flashing lights, this could mean there in something amiss within your eye. Flashing lights is one of the detached retina symptoms.  Floaters can also be a part of this symptom. You may notice flashes of light that look similar to lightning coming from the corners of you eye.
  2. Floaters. You may also see bright splotches moving across you vision. These are called floaters. If you experience these, make an appointment with your ophthalmologist immediately.
  3. Vision obstruction. A gray veil or curtain moving into your field of vision is another detached retina symptom. This symptom may affect only part or all of your vision in the affected eye. Out of the detached retina symptoms, this is the scariest. If you encounter this symptom, seek help right away.
