Dog Diarrhea Treatment

Here's what you'll need to treat your dog's diarrhea:

• Fresh, clean water
• Low-fat foods
• Fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber

1. Lots of Water To begin treating your dog's diarrhea, you'll need to give him fresh, clean water at least three times a day. Since diarrhea is known for causing dehydration, you'll want to keep your dog drinking water very often. Supplying them with good water and keeping them hydrated is important in the first days of a diarrhea attack. 
2. Food After giving your dog lots of water for a few days, observe its behavior. If the diarrhea starts to ease off, you can start feeding your dog low-fat foods and boiled foods. You'll also want to try feeding them fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber. High-fiber foods have been known to help solidify stool.  
3. Medication Surprisingly, dogs can be treated for diarrhea in many of the same ways as humans. You can give your dog Pepto-Bismol at 1 mL per each ten pounds your dog weighs. Sometimes, it can be tough to give a dog liquid medicine, but if you use a medicine syringe it can be a lot easier. Of course, along with human remedies, there are medicines specifically for dog diarrhea. They range anywhere from five to fifty dollars depending on strength and amount of medicine.

If your dog shows no signs of recovering, and/or has blood in its diarrhea, you should contact an animal hospital immediately. There are very serious diseases that are related to bloody stool.
