Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk: What To Do
So it’s the second Thursday of the month and you made it to the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk, what to do now? You can do anything you want! There is so much to explore on this massive expanse of Downtown Los Angeles, that each individual that embarks on the trip can have a very different experience. Below are some of the basics about the L.A. Art Walk, just to much sure you don’t get too confused.
- When to go. The Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk runs from about 12 to 9 p.m. on the second Thursday of every month, and covers about ten blocks of the Los Angeles Metro Area. Some of the galleries don't open until about 3 p.m., however, so be sure to plan your trip accordingly. The best time to arrive to avoid traffic is between 3 and 6 p.m., but the streets will remain busy until after 10 p.m., with many activities continuing at bars, restaurants and private spaces well into the morning.
-
Art Walk festivities. Aside from the 30 or so art galleries included in the affair, you will also find street art, bands and performance artists. Most of the festivities are free as well, so there is no reason not to check out as much as you can.
- Getting there. try the subway. Gallery Row is a pretty large area and during the Los Angeles Art Walk, there is so much foot traffic you’ll actually feel like you are in New York City. Attempting to drive may be hazardous for your sanity, and the $1.25 each way fee for the Metro is much cheaper than paying for parking in this hectic area.
- Where you should eat. There are also countless wonderful downtown restaurants and eateries scattered around the streets of the Art Walk, but you may also enjoy eating out of the food trucks that line the streets.
- Take your time, Do not attempt to see everything in one day. There is simply too much, and you’ll cheat yourself out of an amazing experience by rushing around from one place to the next. Take your time, and enjoy each gallery you wonder through. If you check out a gallery that displays art that doesn’t match your tastes, just move onto the next one.
- Events change monthly. Some of the actual exhibits and festivities change each month. This is why trying to outline a strict plan of action is nearly impossible. If you have an entire day to take in the surroundings, it is sure to be a fun, enjoyable and affordable day. The Art Walk is actually more happening at night, so don’t let the fact that you cannot spend a full day there stop you from experiencing one of the best festivities that the city of Angels has to offer.
