When it comes to finding dry eye treatment, there are many choices for you to choose. You may choose to treat your dry eyes naturally with products around your home or use prescribes medication. Knowing what treatment to use to treat dry eye is important, but understanding what causes this condition is also important. Dry eye occurs due to various factors such as autoimmune disorders and prescription medicine. It could also occur due to aging and hormonal level changes during menopause.

Things you need for dry eye.

  • Warm compress
  • Baby shampoo or mild soap
  • Humidifier
  • Special Lenses
  • Water
  • Eye drops
  • Antibiotics
  • Flax seed
  • Fish Oil
  • Omega-3
  1. Take a warm compress and apply it to the eyes for five minutes.  The warm compress helps release the tear ducts especially in inflammatory disorder  that occur due to the lipid tear layer being too thick.
  2. Use baby shampoo or mild soap to treat your dry eye. Take a small amount of soap or shampoo and place it on your fingertip. Close your eyes and massage the liquid close to your eyelashes carefully, and rinse the liquid off when you are finish.
  3. Buy a humidifier for your home. Make sure that the humidity level is about 50 to 60 percent when you use the equipment.  Some dry eye patients notice that by using a portable humidifier in their home they had fewer symptoms.  
  4. Protect your eyes from dry air by wearing special lenses. These special lenses referred to as bandage lenses or corneal shields provide a form of moisture protection that helps increase the humidity located around your eyes.
  5.  Eat flaxseed or take fish oil supplement to treat your dry eye. The Omega-3 fatty acids found in these oils reduce the viscosity of tears while normalizing your tear glands function. Add foods such as soybeans and walnuts to your diet, they are also a great source of Omega-3 and will help relieve your dry eye symptoms.
  6.  Increase your water intake. Water keeps your eyes hydrated, and this will reduce your dryness of the eyes.
  7. Contact your medical provider if your home remedy does not work. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to help reduce the eyelid inflammation such as Restasis an immune suppressing medication cyclosporine.

For occasional dry eyes, you may also want to purchase over-the-counter eye drops. Recurring dry eyes normally require medical attention, so contact your ophthalmologist.
