Easy Recipe For Spring Rolls
When you are cooking a Chinese dinner, it is enjoyable to have an easy recipe for spring rolls to complete the menu. One of the most important things to remember when cooking Chinese food is that it cooks very fast. It makes the cooking process much easier if all of your meat and vegetables have been cut up and set aside. Then measure out each ingredient separately and put in small dishes so they are ready to be put into the wok quickly. When everything is cut up and measured out, you are ready to start cooking.
To make an easy spring roll recipe you will need:
- Wok, deep skillet, or deep fryer
- Wooden spatula or large slotted spoon
- Paper towels
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon oil plus oil for deep frying
- 1/2 pound ground pork, beef, or chicken
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 3 cups fresh bean sprouts or 1 (16 oz.) can bean sprouts, well drained
- 8 sheets spring roll wrappers
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- Fry onion in oil until soft.
- Stir in meat, garlic salt and soy sauce. Cook until browned.
- Add bean sprouts.
- Drain and discard any excess liquid. Remove mixture from the wok and cool the filling.
- Mix cornstarch with water in a small bowl and set aside. The cornstarch and water will hold the spring roll wrapper together.
- Take one spring roll wrapper and lay it out flat. Spoon about 1/3 cup filling on lower half of the spring roll wrapper. Take your finger and dip into the cornstarch mixture and moisten all edges of the spring roll wrapper.
- Fold bottom edge up just to cover filling, and fold left and right edges 1/2 inch toward center. Moisten all edges with cornstarch mixture and roll up to seal.
- Repeat the process until all the spring rolls are made.
- Add oil about one-inch deep into the wok or deep skillet. When little bubbles rise the oil may be hot enough. You can dip a corner of one of the spring rolls in and if it makes a sizzling sound it is hot enough. If you have a special fryer thermometer it should read 375 degrees.
- Using the tongs or slotted spoon, carefully place a few spring rolls at a time in the hot oil and cook until golden, about three minutes.
- Remove spring rolls from wok and drain on a paper towel.
