To fight right, you need the essential mixed martial arts training gear. Mixed martial arts training gear protects your body, from your teeth to your private areas from the blows of your opponents. The right gear will also help you move quickly and deliver the better punches.

  1. Shorts. The essential mixed martial arts shorts are loose enough that you are able to move around your opponent and execute moves. Mixed martial arts shorts are different than regular sports or running shorts in that the elastic has more grip, and the seams are more durable. The best MMA shorts have split seams and panels that make it easier to move about. They also have a drawstring and a pocket for you to store your mouthguard in.
  2. Mouthguard and head guard. While you may be able to get away without a head guard during fights, you will always want a mouth guard when practicing mixed martial arts. The mouthguard will protect your teeth from an opponent's blows. When you first begin training, you can get a mouthguard of the rack. As you continue to practice the sport, a custom mouthguard becomes an essential.
  3. Gloves. Another essential mixed martial arts training gear is a good pair of gloves. A good pair of gloves is padded and will help you deliver  knock-out punches without hurting your wrists. The type of gloves you wear depends on the type of fight or practice. Gloves made for punching a bag are heavier and more supportive. Gloves designed for fighting are lighter weight while gloves designed for sparring, or practice fighting with an opponent, are more padded than fight gloves.
  4. Rashguard. You'll get sweaty during a mixed martial arts fight or practice. While a regular t-shirt will just soak up your sweat, a rashguard wicks it off your skin, so that you don't get overheated or too sweaty. A rashguard protects your skin from irritation too. Some have a microbial coating that protects you from nasty bacteria that may be lurking on the training mat.
