Any professional or amateur motocross racer must have the essential motocross racing gear. Motocross racing is an exciting, thrilling and high speed sport, but it has the potential to cause serious injuries. By wearing the essential motocross racing gear, you greatly reduce the risk for suffering a devastating injury should an accident occur. Wearing the essential motocross racing gear protects the body against serious injuries and can even lessen the severity of an injury had the motocross gear not have been worn at all.
- A helmet is considered to be the most essential aspect of motocross racing gear. In order for it to work effectively, the helmet must fit correctly and be made for motocross racing. The helmet protects the head, face and neck from injuries. It protects against any debris that may fly towards the head, as well. A pair of goggles should be worn as well to protect the eyes if the helmet does not have an eye shield.
- Body armor needs to be worn when motocross racing. Body armor consists of a protective plate that covers the back, shoulders and chest. The armor is needed to absorb the shock of an accident should one occur. By wearing body armor, you will help protect against broken ribs and other serious injuries, such as spinal damage.
- Guards are essential as well because they protect the extremities. Wearing gloves will protect the hands against abrasions and road rash from debris or accidents. Shin, elbow and knee guards help protect against broken bones and abrasions from accidents. Many riding boots cover the shins, so shin guards may not be needed.
When purchasing motocross racing gear, always purchase quality gear. Cheap gear may not protect as well as quality gear, and with motocross being such a high risk sport, do not take the risk. All gear should fit correctly and be used correctly. Never wear broken or damaged gear.
